The community of QQ Section shack settlement in Khayelitsha continues to bounce back after a difficult year. After the devastating fire in March of this year, we reported in our Summer Newsletter that QQ Community Crèche (Preschool) was able to rebuild thanks to the community pooling together their own money and resources, and the additional generosity of CHOSA’s family of donors.
Since then, the improvements have continued! The crèche is happy to have a new cement floor, and nearly the whole crèche is now carpeted, which makes the inside warmer and more comfortable for the children. The kitchen has also recently been stocked with new supplies. And best of all, there has been a recent upsurge in the number of children attending the crèche! There are now just as many children as there were before the fire, a true sign that QQ’s crèche has made a strong recovery.
Last month, QQ Section Community Crèche’s teachers, alongside CHOSA Community Coordinator Zukie, organized a field trip for the children to visit Cape Town’s only zoo, Tygerberg Zoo. The kids enjoyed the adventure, and saw animals that they had never seen before! A wonderful time was had by all.
